With the rise of 3D imaging and printing technology, it is important to advance the techniques to detect 3D objects accurately in 3D images. This proposal outlines a solution for 3D object detection using 3D images and PyTorch. Objectives: This project aims to develop an automated system for 3D object detection on a set of 3D images. The system is expected to detect the cells present in the images and accurately classify them into their respective classes. Methodology: The existing 3D object detection methodologies can be divided into two main categories: 1. 3D feature-based object detection 2. Deep learning-based approaches For this project, we propose to use a deep learning-based approach. In particular, we will be using Pytorch and ResNet-50 as the neural network model for object detection. We will also be utilizing transfer learning, and fine-tuning the pre-trained model to improve the accuracy. This technique will allow the model to generalize and detect objects more accurately on the 3D images. Once the model is trained, we will evaluate it against a predetermined dataset to evaluate the accuracy of the model. This dataset will be composed of 3D images with known classes of cells.
