Enable column sorting of table on web page

We have a dashboard page on our site that is table. We'd like to enable the user to sort (either alphabetical or numeric depending upon content of column) the table by clicking on the column headings. The columns should assort ascending on first click of heading, and descending on second click of heading (and alternating on clicks thereafter). In addition, we'd like ability to edit the first name, last name and email columns by double clicking over those fields. Once updated, the db should be updated to reflect the changes.
