i can assure you it won't be difficult for magento to handle 30000 product with sufficient speed. i know magento and zend at source code level so i can tell that with confidence. though for speeds some tweaks are needed, some default workflow need to be replaced by custom one, like magento review/rating system needs a dozen of mysql tables for simple job. and some general tweaks like having good caching and db maintenance system will do your job. help lot of people in managing their magento so you will find a great long time partner in me. will discuss anything that you need. bapi

Hi there, First and foremost, thanks for posting the job. Now moving towards your project requirements, where you want to get the best suggestion for the website you h ave in magento older version, I would like to put some points which might clear things about the website: 1) Upgrading: Before we talk about the up gradation i will say that, whenever we update the website to new version all the modules which are custom or has been customized will not work in the upgraded version, thus we need to code them from scratch keeping the new version compatibility in mind, and this will consume so much time. 2) Creating it from scratch in latest version: This option sounds fair and also it would be beneficial as the one who is working on this project will start everything from scratch and the benefits he can take from the older version is the data, one can easily take the data from the older site that will include products, users etc, so its one of the advantage of creating it from scratch. 3) Custom framework like Zend: This also sounds fair, but here the costing and the time will raise as everything has to be done from scratch while if we use the magento then half of the efforts could be saved as well as cost, the only advantage using a zend is the customizable nature of this framework, if you have a lot of customization we would strongly prefer using the zend. Keeping all these points i think you have got a fair idea and thus we would like to discuss on Skype. Regards

Hello. After reading the specifications I got a pretty good idea of what your requirements and needs are. At the moment, you use a very complex solution and the complexity comes mainly from binding together multiple software products. This, in time, will make the application hard and expensive to maintain. So, as you predict a grow in products and sales, my recommendation would be to use a custom made solution. You mentioned Zend framework, but as I worked with Zend, CakePHP, CodeIgniter, I would suggest to use a more light-weight alternative than Zend, like CodeIgniter. You get the same functionality and advantages with less resources consumption. One more thing I noticed and I think a custom-made solution would fix is the worked involved in processing an order for both you and your 3rd party collaborators. A custom solution would allow the same functionality you have now, plus the features you wish to have and will assure that a minimum human factor is required for processing an order. This will save time for both you and your partners and will help scaling your business in the future. During my work experience I've build an online web application for an e-commerce website. It was the exact same scenario: they were using magento and wanted a custom-made solution as their number of products had grown significantly.
