I Just completed similar task for a shaft on a rack and pinion. there the shaft became hard due to poor interference fit with bearings, but the same was cleaned up with right boring. The issue resolved. I can complete the same for you. can you reach me. Thanks.

The coupling connected to the generator shaft is too much mass and it fried the brushes and conductors/wiring. The dimensions of your generator is small so it can not produce enough torque.
