Overview We need someone to improve our software development and IT operations process by employing a modern Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) solution. We are a virtual development team using PC’s running LAMP stack packages on Windows, Linux and MacOSX. The web application uses the CakePHP framework with libraries for photos an PDF generation. The staging and production servers are remotely hosted dedicated servers running Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. The staging server runs git pull every few minutes via cron. The production server gets updated via manual git pull. The database is on a separate database server. Jira and Bitbucket are used to manage issues and source control. Challenges 1. Some bugs do not occur in all environments due to differences in configuration. 2. Most tests are repetitive and time-intensive which are prone to mistakes. 3. Deploying to production takes over an hour due to the increasing number of test cases. 4. Previously fixed issues may be reintroduced but unable to be detected by current tests. Requirements 1. Improve the overall speed and reliability of deployments by at least 10%. 2. Have the ability to automatically test for a list of bugs we have selected. 3. Isolate and secure internal data and guarantee the integrity of the site. 4. Have the option to queue issues for manual deployment. 5. Have satisfactory documentation of instructions and maintenance. Hi, I have been working for an odoo consulting firm for the last three years where I am the main Cloud Engineer. I have deployed a DC/OS cluster in these cloud providers: IBM, Azure, Google, AWS where I have managed the build and deploy docker images of odoo and PostgreSQL using the Mesosphere framework (similar to kubernetes which can run in DC/OS as well). I know how to use Terraform + ansible. I usually work on a system with gitlab - Jenkins, where I built most of the apps using scripted pipelines and then deploy them to the docker cluster. I know how to use Jenkins and the cluster command-line tools to optimize the use of the cluster resources by autoscaling up and down the number of nodes, and using OnDemand instances for production environment and spot instances for the staging one. I have implemented automated backups of the databases using PostgreSQL client tools and automated snapshots in AWS to store backups in S3 buckets according to a backup plan. I have implemented wall-e backups to store physical backups remotely in S3. I have worked with data persistence configuration in DC/OS to preserve the PostgreSQL between restarts of the docker containers. I have implemented IPsec VPN networks that connect google, aws an azure.

Hi. I'm a software developer. I've worked with CI/CD pipelines and written tests that would solve all your problems. To solve your problems, I would introduce a few things: - A continuous integration server such as Jenkins, that runs "automated tests" and complains if they fail. - Automated tests, i.e. unit tests (for core functionality) and frontend tests, e.g. selenium - Building artifacts for deployment - Create a production "dump" to deploy in development / testing. Also this can serve as a backup. The challenges you mention are as follows. I've given a sample solution: 1. Some bugs do not occur in all environments due to differences in configuration. -- Use virtual machines with a standardized setup (e.g. vagrant + ansible) to make sure every developer has the same configuration. Alternatively, one can use docker (not sure if it works on windows). 2. Most tests are repetitive and time-intensive which are prone to mistakes. -- Tests a meant to be repetitive. That's why one uses a test framework to implement and automate this. 3. Deploying to production takes over an hour due to the increasing number of test cases. -- Don't run tests when deploying. Actually, don't git pull, use an artifact that can just be unzipped. 4. Previously fixed issues may be reintroduced but unable to be detected by current tests. -- Write proper regression tests. Here's my list of solutions for proposal: 1) I would improve the speed of the deployments by implementing CI/CD pipeline job with appropriate plugins installed with the help of Jenkins. 2) Testing the bugs can be automated by enabling "publish the junit test result report". 3 ) Time frame required to achieve this is two weeks. 4) I'd need access to your servers with jenkins installed (if not installed), bitbucket and Jira. FYI, I've been working on CI/CD from the last 3 years implemented with some additional tools. I'll provide you quality work delivering on time. Hi, Greetings! Looking at details, it looks to be virtual team managing LAMP stack application. For implementing DevOps for such an project, below will be very highlevel plan: 1) Categorizing all micro-services being used in application. 2) Standardize the REPO foe each of micro-service. Effort should be to bring them in sync in terms of design/branching. 3) Implement automated Builds for each of micro-service. 4) Implement automated QA cycles for each of micro-service with automated Infra(may be Docker). 5) Issue Tracking/Bug Fixing cycles to be integrated with automated QA. 6) Implement automated deployments in required platform. 7) Automated Monitoring/Automated Report Generation would be next level. Above plan generally takes 3-6 months for any application(2-4 micro-services) with multiple tools engagement.
