Process Shapefiles - Geospatial Analysis

Dear Sir/Madam, I am a GIS developer and analyst with prior experience working on tasks such as this, from a background in environmental science and ecology. My skillset is fairly broad and includes working with QGIS, GRASS etc; programming in Python and R; data management; spatial analysis; map design/cartography; web map development; and working with databases/SQL. I propose to use PostGIS for the task, importing the layers with ogr2ogr, then writing a spatial SQL query to calculate the borders, centroids, and distances, which I can write to csv files. The same result can be achieved without a db using R or Python, if preferred. Either way, in addition to the csv tables, I can provide the source code/query for reference. Hello! How are you? I can help you with with your project by programming functions in Python, Qgis and R. By using Qgis, I can use the right projections to work with the precise locations and to calculate the centroids of each polygon (WGS84 for lon-lat , the projection of Ireland for Easting and Northing values). Distances between centroids and from centroids to boundaries can be calculated in a precise way using R or Qgis. Then, I can develop a PyQgis script to calculate the second part. Here, I'll have to think step by step to write a script that allow us to obtain the second table. All the results can be saved on .csv. Are you thinking in another type of database? Which is your deadline? I've worked in a similar project before. I calculated the centroids of all the counties in the USA and their nearest distance to time zones. It would require generating multi-relationships based on spatial analysis (BOUNDARY_TOUCHES in Python). And once the work flow is smooth we can run over your systems too. Generating centroid; calculate distance between the centroids and deriving the farthest points among the adjacent polygons using proximity analysis. In some cases where the boundaries two layers are not in sync, we need generate the relationships based on either area or population density and removing the slivers, assigning the weightage.
