Windows Front End For A Command LIne Application We have a windows 2000/XP command line program (QualTrace) for which we would like to wrap a more user friendly user GUI application around. The requirements of this GUI application are: Essential • The application needs to watch a specific directory for the creation of new directories that are older than x minutes. If a new directory is found then the new directory is parsed for files with a “.ab1” extension. The “.abi” files are then passed to the command line application for processing. • The user can select to autostart the application on bootup. • An Options View with the following settings: o The directory to be watched. o The Logfile name, location and maximum file size. o Time frequency to check for new directories (ie hourly, daily, etc.) o A check box for autostarting the application on boot up. o A reset to defaults button. o Defaults are supplied for all these options but they can be changed by the user. If a user changes a setting then their settings should be retained unless the user clears the changes by choosing the reset button. •A Results View which: o Displays the data from the most recent logfile in reverse chronological order. This data is in the form of 12 columns of tab delimited text. o Allow the user to browse for older logfiles to display • The application should create a new logfile once the current logfile reaches the maximum allowed size. This should be done by renaming the logfile and attaching the current date to the name then creating a new logfile with the old name. For example, if the logfile name is [login to view URL] then it would be renamed to [login to view URL] and the new logfile named qt.log. • A basic help function for the application. The text for the help function will be supplied. • The application minimises to the Windows Taskbar Tray. • A simple installer to installs the wrapper application and the command line application. • Well commented code that can be followed by others along with any build instructions and requirements. Optional • Suitable icons for the application. • Nice design and layout. Additional Information I have attached the manual for the command line software. The input parameters for the software are very limited and the output similarly constrained. The wrapper application will need to run independent of the .NET framework as the users will be installing the application on computers that can not have .NET installed. MFC is the preferred framework. I will be choosing the programmer on the basis of the understanding of the project requirements. I am willing to trial an unrated programmer if they can demonstrate to me that they are keen and can do this project. PM me with any questions.
