Leadership Interview Report

Informational Industry Interview Students will conduct an in-depth interview with an individual who currently holds the position or a similar position that the student (you) hope to hold within five years. Prior to the interview, an analysis of the company must be completed. This analysis should be included as an “Introduction” to the written report of the interview. For example, include but are not limited to the following: • History of the company including origin • Locations (domestic, international) Size of company • Private or publicly held • Leadership structure; Key leaders • Products and/or services • New developments in the company In addition to researching the company, research the person you are planning to interview using resources such as LinkedIn and Google with your smart phone. Often, you can find bios on company websites. Please use company websites as resources. The questions you select for the interview are of your own choice. There are no scripted questions that will be provided. After researching the company and the individual to be interviewed, consider your personal career interests and what topics would be helpful for you to hear this leader’s perspective. Every interview is not going to be the same. This assignment is meant to be customized to your selected leader and you, the student. Write the interview in paragraph form, similar to an essay. While you will be asking questions and the interviewee will be answering them, the assignment is not meant to be written in the format of questions followed by answers. For example, “on a scale from 1 to 5 how do you like your job?’ That doesn’t provide any “rich” detail however a questions such as “What does it mean to lead employees?” provides the reader with a wealth of information. Suggestions for interview questions to gather data to write your essay: Use good qualitative wording for these questions. • Begin with words such as “how” or “what” • Tell the reader what you are attempting to “discover,” “generate,” “explore,” “identify,” or “describe” • Ask “what happened?” to help your description • Ask “what was the meaning to people of what happened?” to understand your results • Ask “what happened over time?” to explore the process At the end of the written interview, include what was most significant to you, (the student), in talking with this individual. What did you learn that might impact your career in the future? What help did this person possibly offer? What follow-up is needed on your part to thank and keep in touch with this person as part of your professional network? This paper need to be 3-5 pages 12 pond and double spaces.
