Nagios expert to customize a couple of nagios standard services

There are a couple of nagios services in our environment that have peaks for a few seconds, making the service to become red, but then they become green again in the next check. Instead of increasing the thresholds, is there any way of making them "hard and soft" so we can only make them red when it has been over the threshold for some time? We would like it to be just for the problematic services, not for all. One is a basic check_nt service for processor queue lenght.
