The Ah Counter page:
The goal is for a blind or visually impaired person to simply enter a speakers name. Then enter a series of "filler" words, such as "but", "um", ah", regardless of how many there are. Then the speaker needs to easily access a summary of all the utterances to resemble "Speaker name", then "6 so", "4 but", 2 um", 1 you know" or similar. I think it could most easily be represented in a tabular format.
The form will allow a person to enter a speakers name in an edit field.
The user then will enter a series of words (one line at a time), so a textarea could be used.
After the speaker finishes speaking, the user will press a calculate button that will produce a table that will summarize the speaker's utterance of "filler" words.
Example: Joe speaks. He utters "um". The person enters "um" in the text area. Joe utters "ah".
The person enters that on the next line. After the speaker finishes, the person will press the "Summarize" button and will see a table withJoe appear at the top of the column and each successive row will show something like 3 ums, 2 ahs, 1 so. The table will be sorted by the most uttered appearing first.
The processwill repeat several times with no definite number of speakers, so the writer of this should offer an accessible way to display many columns of speakers, whether that's using paging or another scheme.
The collection of speakers and the summaries of their utterances should use no server side database, so maybe a cookie based way to save the summaries in case of browser shut down, so also should include a"Reset" button.
Navigation to the speaker edit, the word textarea, and the summary will have accessKey navigation. The textarea will have simple instructions that will say "Enter each filler word on one line and press Enter, Tab or navigate to the 'Summarize'' button when the speaker has finished." There will be two h2s; one for the Reset button, speaker name and textarea and a second h2 for the summary table.
