I work for an ISP and I have recently joined and I have been given the job of migrating the Webserver.
#Problem with the current Webserver
-We do not have any fault tolerance (single instance only)
-The site is using Apache+Wordpress
-MySQL is used as database and its stored locally.
-Was deployed in a very old hardware.
-Hangs up every two to three days where we will not be able to even console in the
System and the only things that is used to resolve the issue is to reboot the machine.
#My approach to migration:
-I have installed six virtual machines (3 in Proxmox & 3 in VMware Hypervisor)
-All the six machines have CentOS7 installed and (yum -y update) done.
#Organizaional Requirements:
-2 servers to use as HA Proxy for load balancing the requests
-2 Servers for Webserver instances
-2 Servers for Database replication
-In the available servers, we have to use distributed filesystem to sync the files of the websites.
-For database clusters, any possible active/active or active/passive clusters can be used (Gluster FS can be implemented). If another machine is needed
to have cluster, that would be provided.
-In our country there is no any option of cloud (like AWS, digital Ocean,etc) and since we have enough resources,
our company won't go for any cloud solution.
-Letsencrypt should be implemented as SSL Certificate & auto renewal.
-Automated Backup of the websites & mysql database
-If you are comfortable with Nginx instead of apache we can go for that as well.
-There should be php session caching as well so that when I user logs into the server, he shoudn't be prompted to login again to another server in the
same session. I think memcached can be used for this.
#Personal Requirements:
1. Connecting via TeamViewer/Anydesk is a must because I need to see all the things and
more importantly, all the detailing should be explained while doing the work because I need to know what's happening and where we have reached so far.
2. Before going to any work, all the steps (one by one) should be well documented so that it would save time for both of us during the work.
3. And after the work is completed, a well documentation of the task is needed sir.
4. After the job is done, I shall put that into observation for a week and during that period, if any issues related to the work occurs,
I might seek help from you and we can sort the issue possibility in chat.
