Help Migrate Wordpress from LAMP stack to HAProxy, Varnish, LEMP on DO.

I currently have an installation of Wordpress on a single server in an LAMP stack. My site is seasonal so has huge traffic spikes. For most of the year my server is over spec'ed and under-used, while in the peak times it seems to be under-spec'ed and max'ed out.

To alleviate this I would like to my site to Digital Ocean so that I only pay for the resources I use. The use of DO in this project is non-negotiable.

To use this "elastic computing" I would like to move to the following set up:

1) I want to use a Varnish cache for users who are not logged in, so that they are served static pages quicker. Currently using Apache2 with W3TC this takes [url removed, login to view] to serve a static page. I want to do this in under [url removed, login to view]

2) I want to use a load balancer that automatically scales to deal with spikes in user traffic.

To do this I have tried following tutorials

however, I am now stuck.

I would like an linux expert to help me become unstuck, help me progress to this architecture [url removed, login to view] but with automatic deployment of additional Nginx droplets, to help me secure my set up and lastly to help me get wordpress migrated on a test domain, then up and running on the live domain.
