The following applies to the Morph Café mobile app for android. The first version has already been completed. I just need help in optimizing the memory and performance.
1. I’m having trouble managing app memory with Android. The image processing code uses large amounts of memory. I need your help to optimize this app for performance and memory usage.
2. I will be giving you Java classes that closely resemble the data structures and data processing. I’m not sending you the actual image processing code. This image processing function will be called in the Utilities/Composite method. Work to optimize the performance of this code. Each android device has different memory and processor. However the overall goal is under five seconds to process the source image. Suggest or implement the best methods to manage memory and overall performance.
3. Setup an intent service for the image processing if needed. This allocated memory can be released when the image processing function has completed. Once complete, the image processing does not need to hold onto memory. You can switch the intent service off when done. You may need to run this intent in the background.
4. In addition, once completed each step in the image processing can release data structures and memory. I’ll detail this.
5. It may be necessary to run multiple processes to manage the app memory. Examine if this will be needed. Implement if this will be useful.
6. Test the heap and memory usage with a real android device. View the memory usage in the Android Studio debug monitor. Tell me what you see or make a short video. Make sure this is working properly and not running into any memory issue. Tell me what device you tested.
7. You will make your best effort to optimize performance and memory usage with the Java classes I will supply. This task is not iterative. Once you’ve done the best you can, I’ll work to improve the actual image processing code.
