I need a desktop app that will help me organize files when executed. We should have a simple gui run on demand and we should also support a simple command line that will also execute this immediately. lets assume for a minute just windows desktop folder. I want to run this exe and then it will sort all of the files on the desktop to folders. For example all of the images will go to a folder called IMAGEs. all of the spreadsheets will go to a folder called EXCELs, which is file types, xlsx, xls, csv, tsv, xlsm. We should be able to manage all of the file type associates in a simple csv that looks like this [login to view URL]
-if the extension is not in this csv then we leave it as is.
-if the file is in use we should leave it alone and not try to use shadow copy etc..
now for the config of where to run. Ideally I can specify in a config file stuff like this
C:\Users\name\Downloads
C:\Users\name\Desktop
and when the gui or cli runs it will organize all of these locations. one note. each location will have the folders to organize in to. Meaning we will not take files from desktop and merge with files from downloads. in desktop we will have IMAGES, or EXCELs and in downloads we will also have the same folders.
so your app must have 2 config files, 1 for list of file types and their associated folder names. the other config is all of the locations we will run this against when its executed.
we should use a move command here so that we don't run in to a condition where the file is removed and it wasn't really copied over. Lastly we should keep log file (can be named date time that the exe was executed for each time the exe was run that keeps track of a list of files that were moved. it should be something like
old name and file path, moved, new path and name location
old name and file path, in use , not moved
old name and file path, err , reason for err/exception
