Growing Green Communities (GGC) is focused on developing environmentally friendly, supportive housing and creating living wage jobs for people, particularly the homeless, across Canada.

We are looking for a graphic designer to design a corporate logo that needs to work in monochrome or full color. Monochrome for business cards and similar print situations, full color for banners, our yet to be created website, newspapers and TV advertising, etc.

We design and build low cost, low energy consuming apartment buildings and homes and make them available to those with an established need. We also create jobs for those in need by training them to work on the construction of our buildings or working in our indoor produce gardens (hydroponic growing environments for lettuce, micro greens, and mushrooms).

We're looking for a logo that reflects our environmental nature, our desire to help people in need, and our production of buildings and produce (or even just something cool ... so you have freedom to be creative).

The project will be broken into 2 phases.

In phase 1, I won't provide any feedback to any of the participants.

There will be 3 or 4 winners of phase 1. One winner will be informed through Freelancer as they will "win" this contest. For the rest, after I have contacted them (on Sept 1, 2020 MDT), they will submit an invoice for $30 that I will then pay prior to phase 2.

If there is an idea(s) in phase 1 that I really like but that doesn't get chosen as a winner, I will ask the designer(s) if they will allow me to use their concept for a price of $15. If they agree, they can submit the $15 invoice which I will then pay. After paying for use of the design idea, I will make it available to the winners and explain how I'm thinking it might be incorporated (although it will not be required to be incorporated as I want to leave freedom to the graphics artists to design what they feel would be appropriate).

Phase 2 will take the winners of phase 1 as well as any comments I might have and will repeat the process limited to the winners of phase 1. In phase 2 I will provide ongoing comments and will select a single winner. The winner of phase 2 will then invoice us for $50 (unless otherwise agreed).

During Phase 1 logos should be provided as bitmap (png or jpg) images no less than 500 x 500 and no more than 2000 x 2000.

During Phase 2, logos in development should be provided as above but the final logo should be provided in 3 forms: 1) Monochrome (Black or Green on white); 2) High quality bitmap (similar to the development version but a minimum of 1000 pixels on at least 1 side ... preferably 2000 pixels); 3) a Photoshop layered image (.ps). The final invoice will not be paid until all 3 versions of the logo are delivered by the winner.

There have been a number of good submissions and a clear increase in the amount of thought that has gone into some of the designs. As some of you will have learned, I am rejecting any post that simply shows the same design in another way. For example some people have posted a design and then the same design with a light highlighting it, or a design followed by the design shown on a business card. While I appreciate your efforts to show me how the design will look in various situations, I will be rejecting the duplicates so I don't have to judge them both when the contest ends.

I have noticed that the majority of submissions have been focused on the 3 letters GGC. While some of these are quite good, most of them don't show any association with the goals of the organization.

I've also noted a couple of submissions that were completely unrelated to the focus of the company ... one in particular had a logo showing in a cell phone. The company isn't related to cell phones at all so this one doesn't make sense to me at all.

I would encourage all artists to make sure to read the description of the project. The first couple of paragraphs tell you the key details of who we are. They're not essential to use, but make sure you're not going in the completely opposite direction.

  Said more bluntly .... if you're going to use just the 3 letters ... you're not showing much creativity. Incorporate them (or the full name) into something that shows some creativity.

One reminder I will add. Because the logo needs to work in both color AND black and white (or monochrome) ... using shading from a lighting source, while interesting, isn't going to work well on a business card likely ... you may want to keep that in mind.
