I'm seeking a talented developer to help me create a Windows service. The service will be installed on a Windows workstation (Windows 10, Windows Server 2016 or greater), and everything will occur on the workstation where the service is installed. The service will need to run as LocalSystem and make an interactive logon to the workstation, whether through secure authentication sequence (SES) or remote desktop (RDP); run a process as the logged in user; and then log back off after the process terminates. The actual process it runs doesn't really matter... it can be anything. feel free to use [login to view URL] or [login to view URL] if you'd like during testing. Just know that any command you can run at Start > Run should be supported. This sequence (login > run command > logoff) will run on specific filesystem events. It's important to note that the command we run cannot run under Session 0 isolation (hence why the interactive logon is necessary). If all of this makes sense... you're a perfect fit for this job! If not, feel free to ignore my job post. Before I take any next steps with a freelancer, I would need to understand how he/she would approach having the service do the interactive logon to Windows.

Hello, The way I managed to create a special session for each started application which is different from the Session 0 is using Session Identity Impersonation. In the same way I can run applications in different sessions but also at windows startup after user login. The drawback of the session impersonation is one user must be already logged in. Because usually we need to catch the running process like Explorer (visible through Task Manager) and take his user credentials and permissions. This is the way it is done. Another way is to create a new credential provider which can do user login programmatically. For any other requirement I need to do a research and do several tests. Contacts between Windows Service and Desktop were available on Windows XP but were forbidden in subsequent versions of Windows. Second important restriction is that Windows can host only one service of the concrete type. These two limitations can be bypassed by hosting WCF service inside Windows Service and writing a separate client application that will communicate with the WCF service over the TCP/IP or Named Pipe protocol. Multi-user Windows Service must work in Free Thread apartment and be re-enterable. Session aware service will require additional work for writing and restoring session inside external storage( SQL or Cloud). This will require heavy programming and debugging. I don’t promise you to finish the task in a week. I am old certificated .NET/C# programmer working with .NET 18 years. This kind of applications were my daily tasks 5 years ago. Last 5 years I was working on WEB programming. I live in Lithuania (+3GMT). Human languages: Lithuanian (native), English, Russian (at mother tongue level).
