Good afternoon. Recently I finished project with very similar parameters: an active infrared movement sensor for industrial environment that senses mm-range dislocations whatever slow they are made. The prototype sensor consumes 120uA and thus runs more than 2 years on two AA cells. My responsibility in project involved all stages - measurement principle, electronic and PCB design, firmware, encapsulation, testing, documentation. In another project in recent history - an ultrasonic anemometer - I used CMSIS DSP library for evaluation of time-of-fligh by correlating pulse data in frequency domain, which involved 1024-point direct and reverse FFTs. The resulting sensitivity of the anemometer can be seen on demonstration video in my profile. For your application, I would use the same platform with STM32L433RCP micro, with external core voltage step-down for lowest runtime power consumption, and possibly with evoking periodic sleep mode. Power management will be made around state-of-the art converters with uA-range quiescent currents (battery step up for digital supply, core voltage step-down, analog voltage ldo). Spice simulations will be made to ensure correct start-up in the chained switching converters. In firmware, CMSIS libraries for FFT will be utilized; other data processing may include low-pass filters, averaging and statistics. The parts and device formfactor will be selected with priorities set in function, component costs and fabrication intensity.
