I always tell my clients this same thing that if you target two different sites, same keywords, do the same work will not going to rank your website one after another. You can find one site ranking on the 5th page and one site might be ranking on 2nd or 1st page after few months. Google can treat website differently no matter if you do the same work on both sites.
