The HMAC method essentially requires that a script be written that will take some known parameters and run it through a hashing algorithm to produce a unique one-time secure link that can be used to connect to the LMS system. To break it down a little further, here are the basic steps: An icon/link is created on a website or server that when clicked on runs a special script (created in either Java, Pearl, C#.Net, PHP) to capture some unique info and then creates a secure connection to the LMS system. This special script will go out to active directory and retrieve the username of the person who clicked on the icon/link, a unique timestamp, a pre-shared secret key from LMS and then run these parameters through a hashing algorithm (SHA-1) to generate a one-time unique secure URL that will redirect a user to connect to the LMS system. The unique URL cannot be used more than once and is different each time the URL is generated. The process is pretty straight forward and simply requires someone with scripting experience to be able to write a script to retrieve the AD variables and then create the unique secure URL.
