POP/IMAP to MySQL in PHP

We need a php script that will login to a POP3 account and take the following actions for each message in the account: 1) Download the message; 2) Insert each message in a MySQL table (defined further below); 3) decode each attachment and write them to a predefined directory, insert data about the file into a table for attachments, and rename the file to the entry's mysql_insert_id(); 4) delete the message from the inbox. In the event an email contains no attachments, it need not have an entry in the attachments table. In the event an email contains an HTML and Text version, the text version shall be written to the [login to view URL] field. The HTML version may be discarded or written to the attachment table at your discretion. The application will access the POP3 account locally or through a pre-established VPN. You do not need to provide SSL support. Authentication will be via password. We are currently running SquirrelMail and it functions fine. 2) The application outputs nothing to the user. There is no user interface. The cron daemon will call it via cURL and Apache. 3) The project is for PHP only. We cannot accept Perl, C, etc. 4) 3rd party code can be used as long as the license for it permits our commercial and free distribution. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. Code must be commented and documented in English. 2) Unlimited, universal, non-exclusive copyrights/patent-rights. Coder may create derivitive works. Client intends to release code under an open source license such as Creative Commons, BSD, GNU, etc., to be determined at a later date. PEAR's license is unclear. By default, US Copyright prohibits our reuse of their code without license. For that reason, we cannot use PEAR. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. We intend both to sell the code to our client and also release it on a very-free open source license, probably BSD. In the absence of a license allowing us to do that, U.S. Copyright law prevails and would indicate that we are not allowed to make non-fair-use of it. 3) The application outputs nothing to the user. It will be called by a cron daemon through Apache using cURL. There is no user interface. 4) We are interested in the application being written in PHP, not Perl, C, or any other language. For security reasons, we have to understand what the code says and does before loading it on production servers and our auditor requires PHP. 5) 3rd party code can be used as long as the license for it permits our commercial and free distribution. ## Platform PHP 4.3.x and MySQL 3.4.x (yes, we are using newer versions, but need to maintain backward compatibility.
