Instant lottery machine

The project is a simple "lucky number" game for use in a kiosk. The program is to select a number from one of five concurrent series of numbers between 1 and 3000, display the number, print a ticket bearing the number, produce basic tunes and maintain a record of all transaction data. The program must be written in C or Java to run under Linux. If in Java you will need to keep it compact because it is to reside on and boot from a Compact Flash chip that emulates a hard drive installed on the IDE buss of a regular PC. Communication with the kiosk is via a dedicated "Satellite" board that I have had built which interfaces with the USB port. The Satellite precisely emulates a normal USB keyoard and has been thoroughly tested. You will only need a standard USB keyboard for development and testing. Communication with the printer is via the RS232 serial port. I have an executable version of a Quick Basic program running under FreeDOS that should load and run on your machine which will give you a graphic depiction of what is required. I have also written a fairly exhaustive description which, used in conjunction with the visuals should give you a very accurate specification of the project. Under pressure from a programmer I allowed the application to be written in Quick Basic to run under FreeDOS but it is highly unreliable. Even in this low level language the whole application is way less than 200K. I am now seeking to have it re written in C to run under a skinny version of Linux as I originally specified. The finished program is to run on Compact Flash in a basic PC.
