Let's discuss your issues in more detail, I can't determine what your issues are by what you have said so far. If you're saying that you have issues using ethernet on Linux, I can help you with your network interfaces. As for the crontab backup script, I can also facilitate that, however it isn't the most recommended way of performing backups, depending on the importance of the data.
