Hi... this is similar to some 3D work I did for NASA. On that project they had very detailed CAD files of the space shuttle that they wanted to simplify. I created a tool that allowed them to select parts such as I-beams and doors so they could run routines on those to reduce their complexity. I'm interested in your project because I've taken anatomy classes and always thought it would be fun to work on 3D visualization of that. I would probably approach this by defining minimum bounding boxes for the head and each appendage. First check if the clicked point is on the model surface. If so then check if it's inside one of the boxes. If so the corresponding appendage was clicked. Otherwise the torso was clicked.
