I'm an Mechatronics enginner, currently studying Computer Science. I have done a coulpe of automation project myself. I was currently working with one of my mate as freelencer and now I have become one. I may be new to freelancer but I'm not not new to the field. I did a similar project with arduino to measure moisture in a soil and control the water pump according to the moisture in the soil. In same manner we can also do this wireless with WiFi ,without any need of internet.
