Creative publishing house seeks forward thinking & energetic editor for market leading education sector magazine and website.
About the Role
As editor, you will work with the publisher and commercial manager to plan and deliver editorial content in our education title, which delivers a monthly print publication, a website that offers daily news and sector content and two annual events.
This will include commissioning, writing and editing a wide range of articles, ranging from sector analysis and business management articles to interviews, case studies, features, research pieces and advertorial copy for clients across the platforms. You will work to maintain and strengthen the magazine’s position as the market leading, agenda-setting title in the sector. As this is a market leading publication, the editor – as the face – needs to be comfortable being a visible presence in the sector, interviewing and networking with sector movers and shakers as well as readers.
The ability to grow and develop the editorial content of the magazine is also a must. You will be expected to attend meetings, interviews, conferences and events, developing key sector relationships, planning and researching, coming up with article ideas and always writing to deadline.
About You
We are looking for an experienced writer, with a proven track record in B2B publishing or the education sector. This role is both fast moving and varied, so you need to be excellent at working under pressure and to very tight deadlines, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for doing things well.
You will have tenacity and the ability to evolve and develop article ideas, be able to tackle complex issues and present them well, have first-class writing and interviewing skills and a proven business or education writing ability. You will be a positive, outgoing person with a can-do attitude, able to instigate, develop and keep good relationships with sector and reader contacts. It is also important that you have a strategic mind and are keen to work on business-to-business content.
Excellent communications skills are a must, as you‘ll be expected to work in a small, busy team, in a sometimes pressured environment. You will also have good editing and proofing skills. Some experience in education, management or public sector journalism would be desirable but not essential.
Minimum 2 years previous experience as a writer, journalist or editor required.

Intelligent Media is a publishing company involved in magazine publishing, new media, contract publishing and events, based in Hackney, East London - although our team work flexibly from all around the UK.
We are a fast-moving, driven and ambitious team where leading from the front is a pre-requisite. Our team is made up with some very talented individuals who together produce four inhouse publications - along with associated digital platforms, three events, and contract publishing projects – all from concept to content, media sales to look and feel and of course the all important finished product!

Hours and Fees
This is a long term, freelance contract.
Fee: £1000 - £2,000 per issue - dependent on skills and experience.
10-12 issues per year.
The role is part time, 2-3 days per week (dependent on skills and experience) but will require the editor to spread their time across 5 days of the week (Mon-Fri).
Print publication is produced 10 times a year (monthly with a break in the August and December).
Website content is updated daily.
Reader events happen twice yearly.
Role can be home or office based but must be in the UK and willing to travel to the London office regularly, as well as travel to attend relevant events as and when required (UK only).
