  Announcement for everyone: I am leaving for a trade show and will be traveling for the next about 10 hours. I am still waiting for one person to get beck to me. I will have a decision as quickly as I can get to a computer.
  
  I want to thank everyone who has submitted an entry. A few of you have really tried. It has come down to three designers who were able to read, understand and follow my directions and comments.
  
  My decision from here will be based on who I feel I can best work with. Who can best follow directions without my micromanagement. Who can best interpret my directions and inject a bit of their own creativity.

     The project is not scheduled to close for another day. There is not yet a submission that I am happy with, so the field is wide open.
     If I don't get a submission that excites me by the time of the scheduled close, then I will extend the deadline another 3 days.

     I won't close the contest early. In fact, it will probably take me several hours after the contest closes to choose a winner. I need someone that is creative, can create original work and can take direction. I need someone that I can work with, and identifying that person is not an easy task.

  I added a file: Main Page Proposal. I had a couple of people ask me how minimalist I meant and also what I meant by 'hub and spoke'. I am NOT a designer, but that was my quick and dirty design to give you an idea. You can see that there is only the bare minimum. Each of the pictures would need a transparent background, re-sized to be proportional, and made to be a link to that product category.
  But you can see that there would be no boxes, nothing square, no harsh angles, very little clutter, and very easy to use.

  General comments, continued:
  * Some shapes are very culturally recognizable. Avoid those.
  * Don't be afraid to let your imagination run wild. Very little is actually required. If you miss something, I'll point it out. But better to ere on the side of simplicity rather than clutter.
  * Our previous website focused mainly on our jams. That was 15 years ago when that website was initially built and it has changed only slightly since. We now do much more than jams.
  * Discussion of 'color, flavor, texture' should be saved for the jams subpage.
  * Make sure that if you use images that I did not provide that they are open-source.
  * I will *not* accept a 'plug-and-play' design. Please be creative and original.
  
  Strong Hint:
  I'm still waiting to see if anyone can come up with a simple hub and spoke layout.

  Just some general comments:
  * Please no drop down menus and no square boxes.
  * This should be as simple a layout as possible. I want to keep the clutter to a minimum.
  * I'm sure everyone have seen soldiers marching in formation. For an army, that is a formidable sight. But we are not building an army here. Please don't make your layouts look like soldiers marching in formation. that side-by-side row-after-row regimented layout is very unappealing, visually, on a website.
  * when you use images, to the extent possible, use png with transparent backgrounds. That way you won't have square pictures.

     Great questions!
     1) I hadn't really thought about a color scheme. I think I would defer to your expertise.
     2) The things that MUST be covered on the landing page is links to the subpages. Everything else after that is extra. Some things might be nice, like customer testimonials, but only if they don't make a clutter.
     
     If you were to do a hub and spoke lay out on the main page then you'd put a logo in the middle and then in a circular pattern around the spoke would be indivuals icons for links to subpages. Maybe a jar of jam that said JAMS for a link to jams, etc.

  You ever see a square sea shell? That beautiful spiral is so pretty precisely because it doesn't have any harsh angles. If you do use a spiral layout, keep in mind to follow a Fibonacci sequence. But being as that is more reminiscent of the ocean, and we are a jam company, that may not be the best choice.

  I need an informational site only. No eCommerce. No weekly deals. No specials. No sales. No videos. Nothing requiring regular updates. And I don't like to see sharp angles. Trees don't grow in right angles. Bushes don't grow is squares. And neither should good design.
